From South Orange County California, pianist RYAN SHOOKMAN is currently residing in Baltimore City, Maryland. After tickling the ivories with his mother, Mr. Shookman began formal lessons under the tutelage of Patricia Foster. Being recognized for his innate ability to play so expressively at such a young age, he became no stranger to the concert stage. Mr. Shookman has performed coast to coast in a variety of venues, with appearances in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Denver, etc. In June of 2003, he was heard as a piano soloist with the La Primavera Orchestra on the stage at Carnegie Hall. The piano has also taken him abroad to over 20 countries, including France, Italy, Poland, England, Monaco, Spain, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
As a young student, Mr. Shookman received the Director’s Award at the University of Redlands School of Music where he held a Lehigh endowed piano scholarship and studied with Luanne Fuchs-Long. He then went on to earn four performance diplomas and study with the world’s best at the International Academy of Music in Nice, France, The Juilliard School in New York City, and the Paris Conservatory.
Not only is Mr. Shookman a solo artist, but he is in high demand as a collaborative artist. He gives credit to the Santa Margarita United Methodist Church for hiring him at age 13 as the staff accompanist. His credentials go on as a coach in Colorado for the summer music festival, to conducting and working with musicians all around working on expression and “painting the picture”. Ryan has also spent the past few years leading the senior choir, "The Notables" in Linthicum, MD. Ryan says, “I am so blessed to be able to translate the beauty of music. Music is in every one of us and can heal powerfully. I look forward to sharing this treasure and international language with everyone wherever it might be…”
Ryan's love of music and joy is catching! Come and sing a new song as he leads the music at worship!
